Can Tho city invests 19.5 million USD in urban upgrade

Between December, 2014 and the end of 2016, other works will be carried out, including the construction of roads, three new low-income areas (LIAs), two medical service units in Tra Noc and Thoi An Dong wards and as well as the upgrade of drainage system in Ninh Kieu district.

The workload costs a total investment of 418 billion VND (19.5 million USD), said the municipal Department of Planning and Investment (DPI).

The municipal DPI Director Nguyen Minh Hong stated that Can Tho has been implementing the sub-project between 2012 and 2017 using a World Bank loan of 69.9 million USD and a 20.4 million USD fund from the State budget.

The city has to date completed 76 out of 86 contracts, seeing a number of LIAs, roads, schools, medical service units, embankments and resettlement areas upgraded.

The city’s sub-project benefits around 445,000 local people.

It is part of a project to upgrade infrastructure for six Mekong Delta urban areas, including Can Tho city, My Tho city of Tien Giang province, Cau Mau city of Ca Mau province, Cao Lanh city of Dong Thap province, Rach Gia city of Kien Giang province and Tra Vinh city of Tra Vinh province, which aims to improve the local living standards and environment.-VNA
