Can Tho city invests 19.5 million USD in urban upgrade

Thirteen kindergartens and primary schools in Binh Thuy, Ninh Kieu, Cai Rang, O Mon districts, the Mekong delta city of Can Tho will be built as part of the Can Tho city sub-project of Vietnam – Mekong Delta Region National Urban Development Upgrading Project.

BetweenDecember, 2014 and the end of 2016, other works will be carried out,including the construction of roads, three new low-income areas (LIAs),two medical service units in Tra Noc and Thoi An Dong wards and as wellas the upgrade of drainage system in Ninh Kieu district.

Theworkload costs a total investment of 418 billion VND (19.5 million USD),said the municipal Department of Planning and Investment (DPI).

The municipal DPI Director Nguyen Minh Hong stated that Can Tho hasbeen implementing the sub-project between 2012 and 2017 using a WorldBank loan of 69.9 million USD and a 20.4 million USD fund from the Statebudget.

The city has to date completed 76 out of 86contracts, seeing a number of LIAs, roads, schools, medical serviceunits, embankments and resettlement areas upgraded.

The city’s sub-project benefits around 445,000 local people.

It is part of a project to upgrade infrastructure for six MekongDelta urban areas, including Can Tho city, My Tho city of Tien Giangprovince, Cau Mau city of Ca Mau province, Cao Lanh city of Dong Thapprovince, Rach Gia city of Kien Giang province and Tra Vinh city of TraVinh province, which aims to improve the local living standards andenvironment.-VNA

Hanoi puts 28 more electric buses into operation

The new VinFast Green Bus vehicles, manufactured in 2026, have a capacity of 60 passengers. They are equipped with low floors for easier boarding, facilities for people with disabilities, air conditioning and other modern amenities to improve passengers’ comfort and travel experience.

500-day campaign brings fallen soldiers closer to home

Information provided by local residents in Son La province helped authorities find the remains of two fallen soldiers after four days of searching. At Le Thi Rieng Park in Ho Chi Minh City, 701 sets of remains and 304 sets of personal items have been recovered, while in Ca Mau province, more than 3,000 unidentified graves have been excavated and biological samples collected.
