The Mekong Delta region’s 18th Francophone Festival was kick-started in Can Tho city on March 14, as part of activities to celebrate 45th International Francophonie Day (March 20).

During the two-day event, a seminar on French teaching in the region and a workshop to introduce French learning opportunities in Vietnam and other countries in the Francophone community are scheduled to take place.

Ten outstanding students majoring in the French language will be selected for scholarships on this occasion.

According to Anissa Barrak, Asia-Pacific Regional Director of the International Organisation of La Francophonie, the Francophone Festival is held in not only Vietnam but also many other countries over the world, providing a good chance for French-speaking people to enhance mutual understanding and unity, and uphold the dream of living peacefully with respect to cultural diversity and dissimilarities.-VNA
