– The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho will organise a range of activities to strengthen cooperation with and attract more investments from Japan in 2018, said a municipal official.

Nguyen Khanh Tung, Director of the city’s Centre for Investment, Trade Promotion and Exhibition, said that work will start on an ICT Innovation centre developed by Brainworks Company.

The city will hold a trade and investment promotion conference in Japan’s Hyogo prefecture, a meeting with Japanese investors in Hanoi and a dialogue with Japanese firms.

Tung said that in April 2018, Can Tho will kick off a model farm project in the city as a joint effort of Can Tho College for Economy and Technology and Japan’s VAIO Company with the aim of training high quality agriculture experts for Can Tho. A Vietnam-Japan industrial park will also be constructed, he added.

Truong Quang Hoai Nam, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Can Tho, said many Japanese investors are interested in Vietnam but the number coming to the city remained modes. Therefore, Can Tho needs to make a breakthrough in attracting Japanese investments, he stressed.

According to the Can Tho Centre for Investment, Trade Promotion and Exhibition, by the end of 2017, the city accommodated 77 Japanese-invested projects worth 656 million USD. Its export and service revenue in the year hit 1.77 billion USD, exceeding the city’s plan by 5.9 percent and representing a growth of 13.9 percent year on year.-VNA
