The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho welcomed more than 1 million visitors in the first six months of 2015, including 106,550 foreign travellers, a surge of 60 percent over the same period last year and earning 970 billion VND (44.48 million USD), up 85 percent annually.
Tran Viet Phuong, Director of the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, attributed the rise to a higher number and quality of events in the city, especially the 2015 Green Tourism Week currently being held from June 27 to July 3.
Apart from adding new interesting features to the events, the city also ensured safety, security, traffic order and food quality in local tourism destinations, he said.
He noted that the city has inspected all local ports and stations to prevent raises in transport price while working closely with other localities to promote the city’s tourism.
The upgraded transport system also helps attract more tourists, said Phuong.
To boost its tourism sector, Can Tho plans to design more unique tourism products and entertainment centres, raise public awareness on the need to engage in tourism activities and support tourism enterprises by removing obstacles, he added.-VNA
