Can Tho (VNA) – The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho sent around 300 laborers to go to work abroad in 2018, a rise of 14 percent from 2017 and its competent departments and agencies are working together for higher figure this year.

According to the city’s labour, invalids and social affairs department, 500 laborers in the city have by mid-April been qualified to work abroad. Of them, 57 already began working, 296 others are waiting for their flights, and the rest are processing their paperwork. At the same time in 2018, the figure was just over 150 laborers.

These labourers are mainly employed to work in the fields of construction, mechanical engineering, electronics, food processing, garments and textiles, and agriculture, with salaries ranging from 14 million VND (602.7 USD) to 18 million VND (774.6 USD) per month.

Chau Hong Thai, Vice Director of the city’s labour, invalids and social affairs department, said Japan, the Republic of Korea and Taiwan are the most attractive markets to Vietnamese labourers as their policies allow guest workers to work up to five years.

To increase the number of the city’s guest workers, the department has since the beginning of this year matched four labour recruiters from Malaysia and the Republic of Korea with the municipal job placement centre to select eligible laborers for working overseas.

Besides, it has been intensifying its communications on job requirements, needs and salaries of foreign markets via TV and radio programmes, leaflets, and social networks.

In the first quarter, the centre and labour, invalids and social affairs offices of wards and districts organized job festivals to connect local people with employers.-VNA
