Canada’s International Trade Minister Ed Fast will make a tour of four Southeast Asians from Aug 27-Sep 3 boost trade relations with the region.

The minister will be accompanied by a business delegation during the 7-day visit that takes him to Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar, according to the Canadian Ministry of International Trade.

Fast said on August 26 that the fast-growing markets including the Southeast Asia are an important part in the country’s action plan in the economic field.

He also underlined the government’s pledge to further boost investment and trade ties with ASEAN countries through facilitating Canadian businesses’ access to priority markets in the region.

The Minister is also scheduled to attend the Canada-ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting in Cambodia .


The 10-member ASEAN is now the 7th largest partner of Canada. Two-way trade between the country and the region reached 15.5 billion USD last year, a 17 percent increase from 2007.


Direct investment from Canada in Southeast Asia was estimated to reach 6.7 billion USD in 2011.-VNA
