The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a priority in Canada’s foreign policy, affirmed Ambassador of Canada to ASEAN Donald Bobiash in Jakarta, Indonesia, on April 30.
Speaking at a ceremony to present his letter of credentials to Secretary General of ASEAN Le Luong Minh, Bobiash stressed the Canadian Government’s strong commitment to backing efforts in building the ASEAN Community through more concrete and efficient cooperation plans and measures.
For his part, the ASEAN Secretary General described Canada as one of the longstanding and important partner of ASEAN. He thanked the country’s support to ASEAN during the association’s integration and development process, and hoped the ambassador will contribute to the bilateral relations.
At the event, Minh and Bobiash also exchanged views on issues of common interest, including ways to intensify ASEAN-Canada partnership and their cooperation in potential areas like connectivity, transportation, sustainable development, cultural and people-to-people exchanges.-VNA
