Canon Vietnam Co., Ltd teamed up with the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) Central Committee on October 12 to present over 500 million VND (22,650 USD) in scholarships to 25 studious but impoverished students from Hanoi, Hung Yen, Kien Giang and Da Nang.

The gifts were part of the Canon – Cultivate Future Talents scholarship programme, which gave each university student a 24-million-VND grant (1,073 USD) and each high school student 16.2 million VND (725 USD).

The recipients will be eligible for scholarships every year until they graduate if they maintain their grades. Fifteen of the last year’s recipients received scholarship offers again this year.

According to Canon Vietnam General Director Katsuyoshi Soma, the national programme, first organised last year, supports outstanding students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The “Tiep suc den truong” (Give Students Strength) programme, initiated by the HCYU Central Committee, also supports these students.

The HCYU Central Committee and Canon Vietnam plan to give out 240 scholarships worth approximately 5 billion VND (223,650 USD) between 2014 and 2020 – 90 for high school students and 150 for university students nationwide who want to continue their studies.-VNA
