The National Cardiovascular Institute on Dec. 30 marked the 20th founding anniversary with the award of “Labour Hero for Renewal Stage” presented by Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan.

The honour was the State’s recognition of the nation’s vanguard in this field, including the application of advanced technology such as vascular Doppler placed externally to cardiac muscles for ultrasound and Holter monitor (24h) to record the heart’s rhythms.

The institute has caught up to regional and international standards, thus drawing colleagues from other countries such as Singapore, Indonesia and Myanmar to learn or exchange experiences.

The institute was entrusted to host a Southeast Asian cardiovascular conference in 2008 and managed to make it a success.

The successful application of advanced therapies has helped a number of cardiac patients save huge sums of money from having to undergo international treatments abroad.

The institute has managed to increase its application of interference therapies to heart failure treatment to over 30,000 patients by November 2009 and provide medical treatments for some 20,000 out-boarding patients every year./.
