Vietnam’s export of cassava and its products declined by 32.4 percent in volume to 652,000 tonnes and by 30.6 percent in value to 206 million USD in the first two months of this year.
In 2013, the country stood only behind Thailand in export of the items, which are now present in such regional countries as China, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Myanmar and Japan.
China was the largest importer of Vietnamese cassava and cassava products, accounting for 85.6 percent of the country’s export.
In the year, export of cassava and cassava products plunged by 18.2 percent to 1.1 billion USD. Volume was down almost 30 percent to 3.1 million tonnes, according to the General Department of Customs.
Cassava and cassava products were the seventh largest export staple during the time.
Over recent years, cassava has become one of the products that bring in high export value to the country.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, 560,000 hectares of land nationwide are grown with cassava, giving a total yield of 9.4 million tones. One third of the output is consumed domestically.-VNA
