The Wildlife Rescue Centre of Cat Tien National Park on March 3 received seven rare white-chested black bears from a business based in southern Dong Nai province. The bears will be released to the wild.

This species, scientifically called Ursus Thibetanus, is also known as Himalayan or Asian black bears.

They are now listed in the Red Data Book of Vietnam as the most vulnerable amongst threatened species. They are also recorded in the Red List of the International Union of Conservation of Nature.

Local forest rangers said these bears are about 10 years old with each weighing nearly 200 kg.

The Cat Tien National Park lies on the central highlands province of Lam Dong, and the southern provinces of Dong Nai and Binh Phuoc.
