The Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics (CSVC) held its 4 th plenary meeting in Ho Chi Minh City on February 27 to review its 2012 operations and work out plans for 2013.

Priest Nguyen Cong Danh, CSVC President, said that the meeting adopted important issues relating to the organisation of the 6 th Congress of Vietnamese Catholic representatives who have contributed to national construction and protection, and the collection of opinions on the draft amendments to the 1992 Constitution.

In 2013, the CSVC will continue encouraging the Catholic community to actively participate in social campaigns as well as foster charitable activities to support the elderly, children with disabilities, and areas impacted by disasters. It will also promote the movement of building new rural areas.

Last year, the committee made practical contributions to the patriotic movement, the country’s socio-economic development, poverty reduction and hunger elimination.

Catholic dignitaries and followers nationwide contributed tens of billions of VND to charitable programmes, treatment for poor people, and to build bridges in rural areas.-VNA
