The Steering Committee for the Central Highlands has raised hundreds of billions of VND for sustainable poverty reduction initiatives across ethnic minority households in the region from thus far this year.

As many as 16,000 gifts, worth a total of eight billion VND (380,000 USD) were distributed to impoverished ethnic minority households in the region and neighbouring provinces of Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen, Binh Phuoc, Khanh Hoa, and Ninh Thuan in honour of the traditional Tet festival.

U nderprivileged people in the targeted localities will also receive houses and breeding cows donated by the VinGroup, Vietcombank, and Maritime Bank.

Between 2013 and 2014, local businesses pledged to donate more than 207 billion VND (9.6 million USD) to build houses, schools, and communal houses across the central Highlands provinces, according to the Committee.

As many as 5,000 breeding cows were offered to ethnic minority households in Dak Lak, Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Dak Nong and Lam Dong.-VNA
