A ceremony was held in the central coastal province of Phu Yen on April 1 to mark the 400 th founding anniversary and 36 years of its liberation.

In his speech, Dao Tan Loc, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, said in the renewal process, beginning as an agriculture-based province, Phu Yen made efforts to ensure food security and step by step developed towards industrialisation and modernisation to improve local people’s living standards.

To date, 100 percent of the villages have got access to the national grid and the number of poor households has reduced to 9 percent.

Considering industry and tourism as the two key economic sectors in the years to come, the province will focus on building infrastructure, increasing investment in agriculture and rural areas by 2.5 times and developing human resources, Loc said.

Truong Tan Sang, Politburo member and permanent member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat, urged the province to make efforts to take advantage of its potential and advantages in geographical position, natural and human resources and renewal achievements to become an industrialised province in the next 10 years.

The province needs to promote cooperation with other localities in the country and attract foreign investment to boost economic development as well as modernise infrastructure and increase investment into agriculture and rural areas, he added.

The Politburo member also asked Phu Yen provincial Party Committee to improve people’s living conditions and narrow gaps between rural and urban areas, stressing that the province should better forest protection and development and intensify efforts in the fishery industry.

As a coastal province, Phu Yen also needs to focus on environmental protection and natural disaster prevention, Sang said.

He said the province needs to increase human resource quality, ensure social security, improve people’s living conditions, consolidate and strengthen security and national defence and protect the country’s island sovereignty.

The province was also requested to build a strong Party committee and develop a line-up of Party members having high professional skill, good virtue and political character.

On the occasion, Sang presented the Ho Chi Minh Order, a decoration of the Party and State, to Phu Yen province./.
