The Central Power Corporation under Electricity of Vietnam (EVNCPC) held a ceremony to receive the Independence Order, First Class, in central Da Nang city on January 16.

Addressing the event, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai praised the corporation’s achievements over the last 20 years to ensure power supply for socio-economic, security and political development in the central and Central Highlands as well as the needs of local people despite the increasing electricity demand at 15 percent per year in the region.

To ensure sufficient power supply for the country during this year, the deputy PM asked the corporation to continue to maintain and operate the power grid at the best condition.

It should also develop infrastructure facilities, human resources and reorganise its structure to prepare for a competitive power market by 2015.

Particularly, it should improve customer services for further effective operation, he said.

EVNCPC General Director Tran Dinh Thanh said when the corporation was set up in 1975, the maximum power capacity in the region was 15 MW. It has increased to 1,785 MW today with improved quality and a network of transmission lines of less than 110 kV spreading to all localities.

By the end of 2013, all districts in the region had access to the national grid, higher than the country average and surpassing the National Assembly and Government’s set target.

In recent years, the corporation has implemented many important projects. In 2007, it implemented a project to supply power to 58,629 ethnic households in 43 districts and towns of four provinces in the Central Highlands at a cost of 1.112 trillion VND (52.95 million USD).

It is also accelerating a project to supply electricity from the national grid to Ly Son island district in Quang Ngai province via an undersea cable system which costs over 652 billion VND (31.047 million USD). The project is expected to be completed in 2014.

This year, the corporation targets a commercial power output of nearly 12.2 billion kWh, a year-on-year increase of 10.9 percent./.
