Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Linh Ngoc has urged the Marine Natural Resources-Environment Survey Centre to improve professional skills of its staff in order to reap more successes.

The official made the request at a ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the centre (1991-1996) in Hanoi on November 28.

Ngoc said the centre’s staff should master technology. Besides, it is necessary for the centre to step up international cooperation in order to detect new marine natural resources, thus serving the country’s socio-economic development, and national defence.

The centre, under the Vietnam Administration of Seas and Islands (VASI), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, was presented with the Labour Order, first class, on this occasion.

Outcomes of natural resources and environment surveys conducted by the centre has helped the VASI establish scientific foundations, contributing to building strategies, programmes and plans on sustainable maritime economic development, as well as consolidating national defence and security at sea.

Thanks to the centre’s efforts, nearly a quarter of Vietnam’s seas and islands has been surveyed. New findings of marine natural resources, especially solid minerals on Vietnam’s continental shelf as well as potential deep-water minerals have been released by the centre.

Over the past 25 years, the centre has surpassed a range of challenges to affirm its role in basis marine natural resources and environment survey.-VNA
