Ha Tien officially became a city under the southwestern province of Kien Giang in November 2018. This marked a milestone in the city’s long progress for socio-economic development.

40 years ago, local people and soldiers had a heroic struggle to safeguard the country’s southwestern border.

This place has developed drastically over the past four decades. Infrastructure has improved and in 2018, total production value posted a year-on-year increase of over 12 percent.

Ha Tien is also tourism destination in Kien Giang province. In 2018, the city received 2.6 million visitors, a year-on-year rise of 9.13 percent.

Kien Giang province has signed cooperation agreements with five Cambodian provinces and cities, namely Kep, Kampot, Preah Sihnouk, Koh Kong and Phnom Penh in agriculture, aquaculture, trade, healthcare, education, security and defence and search and repatriation of remains of Vietnamese soldiers who died during wartime in Cambodia.-VNA
