Vietnamese chess grandmaster Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son surpassed defending champion Le Quang Liem to bag gold prize at the HDBank Cup International Open Chess Tournament.

In the sixth round match in HCM City on March 15, Son destroyed Liem’s trap in the 53rd move and put the match away in the following ten moves.

Meanwhile, Singapore’s Zang Zhong continued his winning streak and closely trailed Truong Son.
In the final round, Son drew to his Chinese rival Ni Hu and cruised to a victory after only 23 moves of the game.

After nine rounds, Truong Son earned seven points to take the crown at the HB Bank Cup 2014 for the first time.-VNA
