Vietnamese top chess player Le Quang Liem and 16 international Grand Masters have registered to participate in the Spice Cup in the US from October 15-19.
Liem will meet Georg Meier (Germany) from the Susan Polgar Institute for Chess Excellence (SPICE).
Liem (Elo of 2702), regarded as the No.1 candidate for the champion title, will face other strong rivals including World Youth Champion GM Alexander Ipatov (Turkey, Elo of 2601), Dubai Open Champion Alexandr Rakhmanov (Russia, Elo of 2603), and leading American young chess player Ray Robson (USA, Elo of 2623).
He won the champion title of Spice Cup 2011 and came second in 2012.
The tournament has a total of prizes worth 12,000 USD, including 4,000 USD for the champion.
After the Spice Cup, Liem will be busy preparing for exams at Webster University and he will not participate in the 27th SEA Games scheduled for this December in Myanmar.-VNA
