The chief of the nation’s largest mass organisation has transferred 700 million VND into the fund for flood victims in Central Highlands Kon Tum province, where floods have claimed 33 lives and left four others missing.

Huynh Dam, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee (VFFCC), made the humanitarian gesture during his visit on October 2, extending his sympathies to the locals who also suffered huge material losses estimated at over 550 billion VND (30.8 million USD).

As a result, donations to flood victims in the Central Highlands province have reached over 2 billion VND.

In addition to aid from external sources, the provincial administration has been mobilising its internal resources to repair damaged roads to ensure the flow of traffic and the timely delivery of supplies to flood-hit areas under the motto “No hunger at all”.

The local health service has been busy supplying medicine and chemicals to disinfect the surrounding environment.

Armed forces have been sent to help locals fix damaged homes, thus bringing life and production back to normal as soon as possible.

On the same day, Dam also transferred 300 million VND into the fund for flood victims in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai .

Typhoon Ketsana killed 92 people in central and Central Highlands provinces, left 19 others missing and 199 injured, as of October 1.

Localities nationwide are responding to the call made by the VFFCC to help the flood-hit provinces overcome the aftermaths of the natural disaster.

A nation-wide movement launched in the central province of Quang Nam on October 2 raised almost 4 billion VND and over 2,000 boxes of instant noodles./.
