Chi Minh City launched a nature protection programme on June 27.
The launching ceremony attracted children at the age of between 12 and 15 who are members of the newspaper’s journalism and nature protection club.
According to Do Thi Thanh Huyen, WAR coordinator, joining the programme, which will run until May 2011, children will have chance to visit a wildlife rescue centre in Cu Chi district, HCM City, Cat Tien National Park in Dong Nai province, take part in wildlife rescue and release activities and compete in painting contest on nature protection.
Starting operation in Vietnam in 2003 with the aim of protecting the country’s biodiversity, WAR is covering natural protection activities in Ho Chi Minh City , Kien Giang, Dong Nai and Can Tho.
On May 31, 2010, the organisation and the Cu Chi Wildlife Rescue Centre successfully rescued a rare of leopard with the scientific name of Panthera pardus, which is included in Vietnam ’s Red Data Book on rare and endangered species./.
