A get-together was held in Hanoi on Sept. 16 to mark the 200th Chilean Independence Day (Sept. 18).

Addressing the event, Vice President of the Vietnam-Chile Solidarity Friendship Association (VCSFA) Nguyen Duy Cuong used the occasion to congratulate the Chilean State and people on their independence day.

He expressed the hope that newly accredited Ambassador Fernando Urrutia would help the association carry out more activities to further promote the friendship between the two peoples.

He also conveyed his regards to the victims trapped in a Chilean mine collapse on August 5 and asked Ambassador Fernando Urrutia to send gifts from Vietnamese friends to the Chilean miners.

Ambassador Fernando Urrutia thanked the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) and the VCSFA for organising the meeting.

He updated the participants on Chile’s socio-economic development, saying that his country’s infrastructure was damaged in earthquake and need to be rebuilt again.

The diplomat hoped that the two people’s friendship and solidarity activities would be carried out more effectively with the assistance of central and local branches and sectors./;.
