China will enhance links with chambers of commerce from member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the remaining months of this year, according to Radio of Beijing.

Also, China plans to organise visits to ASEAN countries in order to increase mutual understanding and trust, creating a good foundation for building a China-ASEAN free trade area, the radio added.

The China-ASEAN Business Council is one of five large dialogue mechanisms between the two sides, Vice Secretary-General Xu Ningning said in a recent interview.

China’s move to increase its links with ASEAN chambers of commerce aims to encourage businessmen, particularly from the private sector, to get more involved in cooperation between the country and ASEAN.

Under a signed agreement, the China-ASEAN free trade area will be set up in January next year, the radio said, adding that tariffs on 93 percent of goods traded in the free trade area will be reduced to zero./.
