China-ASEAN defence, security dialogue kicks off

The third China-ASEAN Defence and Security Dialogue convened on March 29 in Beijing with the participation of nearly 40 defence personnel and scholars from the two sides.
The third China-ASEAN Defence and Security Dialogue convened on March 29 in Beijing with the participation of nearly 40 defence personnel and scholars from the two sides.

Topics of interest at the three-day event, which is sponsored by the Academy of Military Sciences (AMS) of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA), will be the situation and development of the regional defence mechanism, cooperation on security and defence between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as well as the two sides’ defence policies.

Addressing the opening ceremony, AMS’s President Liu Chengjun underlined the significance of the security mechanism to peacekeeping and stability in the region, saying that cooperation in defence and security is an important part of the China-ASEAN strategic relationship.

Also, the third dialogue meeting will create favourable conditions for defence officials and scholars from China and 10 ASEAN nations to engage in exchange and cooperation.

A Vietnamese delegation, headed by Colonel Nguyen Thanh Long from the Institute of International Relations and Defence, attended the event./.
