China, DPRK seek to beef up bilateral ties

Wang Jiarui, Head of the Communist Party of China Central Committee’s International Department, made the statement during his talks with Choe Thae Bok, Secretary of the DPRK Workers Party Central Committee, in Pyongyang on Feb. 8.

Wang said the meetings between Beijing and Pyongyang in 2009 marked the Year of China-DPRK Friendship and expanded the time-honoured friendship and bilateral cooperation in all fields.

Choe Thae Bok said the China-DPRK traditional relationship is a common desire of both nations and the multifaceted cooperation would bring in great achievements from efforts on both sides.

A day earlier, Wang met with Head of the Workers Party’s International Affairs Department Kim Yong Il.

The Chinese official carried with him a New Year message from Chinese President Hu Jintao to the DPRK leader Kim Jong Il, according to diplomatic sources.

China , chair of the six-party talks, wants Wang's visit to speed up coordination toward the resumption of the six-party talks involving the DPRK, the Republic of Korea , China , Japan , Russia and the United States , according to observers./.
