Hanoi (VNA) – China hopes the second summit between Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) leader Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump in Hanoi will be successful, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said at a press briefing on February 26.

All countries across the world, including China, hope the DPRK and the US will continue making substantial progress on denuclearisation, peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.

"We have seen from relevant reports that the Vietnamese government and the people have made meticulous preparations and hopefully the summit can live up to the preparations," Xinhua news agency quoted Lu as saying.

He reiterated China's main position on the Korean Peninsula issue - to achieve denuclearisation and safeguard lasting peace and stability in the peninsula and Northeast Asia, Xinhua reported.

Meanwhile, Xu Liping, a senior researcher at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, predicted the DPRK-USA Hanoi Summit will gain breakthroughs in various aspects.

The two countries may establish liaison agencies, he said, considering it a breakthrough as lack diplomatic ties at present.

The US can partially remove sanctions on the DPRK, and the two sides can reach a specific agreement on speeding up denuclearisation, or establish a peace mechanism for the Korean Peninsula, he predicted.

The second DPRK-USA summit is scheduled to take place in Hanoi from February 27-28, following the first held in Singapore last June.-VNA
