Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with Lao Party General Secretary and President Choummaly Sayasone on July 28 in Beijing, during which they pledged to bolster relationship and bilateral links between the two parties and states.

Xi said he hopes that his country and Laos will continue to maintain high-level visits and strengthen all-round strategic cooperation, especially in agricultural modernisation, energy, hydroelectricity and infrastructure.

The host also called for a closer cooperation on law enforcement and management of border areas in the Mekong River basin as well as on countering terrorism and transnational crime.

For his part, the Lao leader expressed a desire to forge links between the two sides in state management, party building and personnel training, saying that he hopes the Chinese side will maintain its support for his country in developing railway projects, agriculture and internet.

At the talks, the host and the guest also compared notes on regional and international issues of common concerns.

They witnessed the signing of a number of cooperation documents, including an economic-technical cooperation agreement between the two governments.-VNA
