China and the Republic of Korea (RoK) signed their first joint land and maritime transport agreement in Weihai City in the eastern Chinese province of Shandong on September 8.

Xinhua news agency quoted Ju Chengzhi, the head of China’s Ministry of Transport’s International Cooperation Department, as saying that the agreement will allow trailers loaded with cargo to be shipped between several ports in China and the RoK from next year.

It said the agreement will help to cut travelling time by 3.5 hours and reduce costs by 50 USD per container.

The agreement is expected to increase the frequency of fresh vegetables, fish, glass, electronics and other products.

China and the RoK are each other’s largest importer and exporter./.
