Hong said China and the ASEAN have agreed to maintain dialogue onthe foundation of the earnest and effective implementation of theDeclaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), accordingto Xinhua news agency.
The two sides will createconditions for negotiation and consensus to reach an eventual code ofconduct, he was quoted as saying.
In July, ASEANannounced the Six-Point Principles on the East Sea , reaffirmingthe association members’ commitment the full implementation of DOC andthe early conclusion of a COC.
They also committedto continue exercising self-restraint and non-use of force, as well asresolve disputes peacefully in accordance with universally recognisedprinciples of International Law, including the 1982 United NationsConvention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
Theten-member ASEAN consists of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos,Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand andVietnam.-VNA
