The People’s Court in the northern border province of Lao Cai on March 3 sentenced a Chinese national to 20 years’ imprisonment on charges of trafficking a large quantity of an illicit drug.

Yang Wanguo, born in 1974, was caught in possession of 338.41 grammes of drug-like white powder in Ta Ngai Cho village, Muong Khuong district, on the border with China , on September 15, 2010. The substance was later tested and found to be a heroin product.

Yang confessed that he was paid over 1,000 Yuan (roughly 152 USD) in advance by a Chinese man to walk across the border into Vietnam and take a black nylon package containing two white powder balls from a Vietnamese boy about 12 years old.

He was arrested by the Lao Cai narcotics squad just 100 m from the delivery point./.
