The Hanoi People’s Committee will invest 78.2 billion VND (3.7 million USD) funded by a World Bank loan this year, to provide clean water and improve rural hygiene for the city’s outlying districts.

The two-component project is expected to benefit some 57,300 suburbanites, said the municipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

In the first component of the project, a water supply system with a capacity of 2,800 cubic metres a day using water from Da river will be built to serve Ba Vi district’s Co Do and Phong Van communes.

Another system using underground water will be built for Hiep Thuan and Lien Hiep communes in Phuc Tho district while My Duc district’s Huong Son commune will rely on My Ha river.

All the water supply systems will use modern water treatment technology to ensure water quality.

The second component aims at improving the hygiene conditions at schools and medical stations in target districts.

The city has so far disbursed 18.2 billion VND (866,000 USD) to implement projects in both components.-VNA
