In kindergarten, kids will learn about the environment and skills to protect themselves in different patterns of weather through songs and stories and plays, experts said.

Meanwhile in primary schools, knowledge on climate change, weather, and greenhouse should be taught through outdoor activities, they agreed.

In high schools, climate change issues will be taught as part of such subjects as geography, physics, chemistry, biology, and history, the experts said, suggesting the organisation of contests for pupils to enable them to gain more understanding on the issue.

At colleges and universities, students will be provided with climate change lessons so that they can join hands in coping with climate change impacts and protecting the environment, the experts noted.

Vietnam is among the countries that will be greatly affected by climate change, which has thus far become a global challenge.

In case the sea-level rises 1 metre, close to 5 percent of Vietnam’s land, 11 percent of the country’s population and, 7 percent of its agricultural land would be affected. Vietnam’s GDP would suffer from a 10 percent negative impact.

To overcome these challenges, the Vietnamese Government has approved the National Target Programme to Respond to Climate Change (NTP-RCC) in December 2008./.
