Impacts in Coastal Southeast Asia wrapped up in the Mekong Delta
province of Soc Trang on October 8.
During three days of discussions, more than 200 delegates from Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam shared experiences in the adaptation to climate change in their coastal areas.
They also took part in fact-finding tours to Soc Trang province’s coastal districts to oversee International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)-backed models of climate change adaptation.
For two years, the models have proved efficient, contributing to the recovery of natural resources and a variety of livelihoods for local residents, the delegates acknowledged.
According to Dr. Robert Mather, head of Southeast Asia Group at IUCN, the Union will prioritise nature-based solutions as the key to cope with climate change.
The forum was co-organised by IUCN, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), Vietnam Administration of Seas and Islands (VASI) and GIZ of Germany.
Cambodia will host the third event next year.-VNA
