The Coca-Cola Company has recently opened a bottling plant in Myanmar with a commitment to investing 200 million USD in the next five years and generate more than 20,000 jobs.

The decision made Coca-Cola one of the first US companies to be licensed to invest in Myanmar under the country’s new investment law.

This investment also marked the company’s return to the Southeast Asian nation after more than 60 years, said Coca-Cola Chairman Muhtar Kent at the ceremony to inaugurate the plant in the outskirts of Yangon on June 4.

Coca-Cola is now a leading beverage producer in the world and one of the first US groups to pour investment into Myanmar after Washington decided to remove embargo on this country.

In addition to Coca-Cola, numerous multinational corporations, including Pepsi, are targeting Myanmar as a potential market.-VNA
