A mobile communication campaign on the theme of the national border and sea and islands was launched on June 14 in the central province of Quang Ngai.

The campaign, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, will be conducted in 11 cities and provinces in the central coastal region and the Central Highlands of Tay Nguyen. It aims to raise public awareness about the sacred national sovereignty and encourage people to unite to protect the national sovereignty in line with domestic and international law.

Addressing the campaign’s launch, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Huynh Vinh Ai said as tensions in the East Sea escalate due to China’s illegal acts, all Vietnamese should unite to struggle for peace and territorial integrity.

On the occasion, Vice Chairman of Quang Ngai province’s People’s Committee called on fishermen in the province to follow in the footstep of their ancestors who were sailors in the Hoang Sa Flotilla in the past, to safeguard the national sovereignty over the sea and islands.

The same day, nearly 5,000 young people in Ho Chi Minh City participated in a festival on the theme of seas and islands. A contest on the country’s seas and islands attracted many youths, while many others joined a forum to discuss ways to boost socio-economic development on islands and voice their opinions about issues relating to defending national sovereignty at sea.-VNA
