The Peruvian Embassy in Hanoi held a ceremony on September 30 to honour the winners of an essay writing contest on Peru launched two months ago.

The first prize went to Duong Quoc Trung, a student at the British University Vietnam while the second prize was taken by Tran Thi Hoai Phuong, a student at Hanoi University and the third by Hoang Trung Nghia, a lecturer at Ho Chi Minh City’s Economics and Law University.

At the awards ceremony, Charge d’Affairs Luis Tsuboyama said the contest helped increase the Vietnamese people’s understanding of Peru and promoted cultural exchange between the two nations.
He said each of the contestants had built “a piece of a bridge” between the people of Peru and Vietnam.

The contest, which lasted from July 25 to August 22, 2014, is part of a series of events to celebrate the 20 th anniversary of Vietnam-Peru diplomatic ties and Peru’s Independence Day (July 28).

The contest attracted entries from six cities and provinces throughout Vietnam – Hanoi, Quang Tri, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong and Dong Thap, as well as from Vietnamese people working in Peru.

In addition to the essay competition, the Peruvian Embassy is organising a range of events to celebrate the 20 th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties, including a Peruvian food festival in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in November, and a film festival in Hanoi in December.-VNA
