Concert to mark city orchestra’s birthday

Many members of the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) will perform on Sept. 9 night to celebrate the orchestra’s 16 th birthday.
Many members of the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) will perform on Sept. 9 night to celebrate the orchestra’s 16 th birthday.

The concert will feature music by three renowned composers, Nguyen Dinh Tan, Hoang Cuong and Do Hong Quan, who played a role in developing the country’s classical music.

The orchestra will perform Dai Thang (Great Victory), one of the late composer Tan’s popular works, which features the spirit of the Vietnamese people.

The show, will continue with Quan’s Nocturne-Tieng Vong (The Echo), which has been performed many times by local orchestras.

Tenor Tran Duy Linh will lead the orchestra’s chorus to sing Ngan Xuan Thang Long (Thang Long-A Thousand Springs Forever) by composer-teacher Cuong, former director of the HCM City Music Conservatory, Ngan Xuan Thang Long is a work for choir and orchestra, highlighting the beauty of Hanoi , the capital’s traditional culture and lifestyle.

The evening will open with a contemporary dance.

The dance Chuyen Dong (Motion) portrays modern life. It is choreographed by Phuc Hai and Phung Hung, two of the orchestra’s young talents who have helped improve traditional Vietnamese dance with new ideas.

The 45-minute work will be staged by HBSO’s young dancers, including Duc Nhuan, Thanh Phuong, Luong Hoa and Thuy Trang.

The event, conducted by Tran Vuong Tach and Tran Nhat Minh, will begin at 8pm on Sept. 9 at the HCM City Opera House, 7 Lam Son square, district 1.

Tickets are available at the theatre’s box office, ranging from 100,000 to 200,000 VND (10 USD)./.
