A national conference to launch the public poll on the draft amendments to the 1992 Constitution was broadcast live in all the 63 cities and provinces on January 8.

Addressing the event, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, who is also Chairman of the Committee for Drafting Amendments to the 1992 Constitution, highlighted the importance of collecting opinions on the draft amendments from all people. It must be implemented in a cautious, transparent, scientific and democratic manner, he added.

Dinh The Huynh, head of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC)’s Commission for Popularisation and Education, said the entire political system, Party, people and armed forces are responsible for the amendments.

While polling public opinion, the information campaigns must adhere to the Party’s policies and guidelines, he said.

Huynh stressed the need to create conditions for citizens to express their own opinions.

He also asked the Foreign Ministry, the CPVCC’s Commission for External Relations, the Party Committees and Vietnamese representative agencies abroad to introduce the Constitution amendments to international friends.

Relevant agencies will submit their reports to the NA Standing Committee, the Government and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee by March 15.

Concluding the event, permanent member of the CPVCC Secretariat Le Hong Anh said the poll on the amendments is a key task of the Party, armed forces and people in the first months of 2013.

Anh asked the ministries and departments to promptly formulate specific plans in line with the Politburo’s Direction, the NA’s Resolution and the Committee for Drafting Amendments to the 1992 Constitution’s strategy. -VNA
