A total of 350 delegates representing more than 700,000 of the city’s children attended a congress of exemplary children, who are conferred the title ‘Uncle Ho’s good grandchildren’ in Hanoi on May 17.

The Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and Head of the CPVCC’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation Ha Thi Khiet and leaders of the central agencies and sectors also attended the event.

The congress commended 120 children for their outstanding achievements in the emulation movement called “Thousands of good deeds for beloved Uncle Ho.”

During the congress, which takes place on the anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s 120 th birthday, incense will be offered at the Ly Thai To statue to commemorate the King who founded the capital city, Thang Long.

In response to the movement “Thousands of good deeds for beloved Uncle Ho”, over the past five years, the city’s children have amassed 20.8 million good academic marks, donated 107 tonnes of clothes, 1 million books, thousands of textbooks and raised more than 8 billion VND to help poor children nationwide.

More than 100 children of the city’s sons and daughters received top prizes at the National Young Information Technology Contest while 150 others received the title of city’s IT knight. Tens of thousands of the children’s paintings and letters have been submitted to other regional and international contests./.
