The flag pole, which will be located in Trieu Duong hamlet, Tam Thanh commune, is 22.6 metres in height and will be constructed with reinforced concrete.
The structure is estimated to cost 1.2 billion VND (55,000 USD) and is scheduled to be completed in July.
The pole is one of seven sovereignty flag towers to be built on outpost islands from north to south by the Ho Chi Minh Youth Union, the Central Association of Vietnamese Students and the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV).
Phu Quy island district is approximately 104 kilometres from Phan Thiet city and has a population of 27,000.
Other islands to have flag towers built include Tran island in Quang Ninh province, Bach Long Vi in Hai Phong city, Hon La in Quang Binh, Cu Lao Xanh in Binh Dinh, Con Son in Ba Ria Vung Tau and Tho Chu in Kien Giang.-VNA
