Hanoi (VNA) –A ceremony to kick-start a project to build Phan Thiet Airport in the southcentral coastal province of Binh Thuan was held on April 5.

In accordance with theaviation transport development plan until 2020, with a view to 2030, Phan Thietwill be an aerodrome with a reference code 4E, which will be used for militaryand civil purposes.

It will receiveinternational flights with a runway and a terminal having a design capacity of2 million passengers per year, along with serving military and national defencepurposes, contributing to the socio-economic development of the province andthe region at large.

Addressing the event,Deputy Minister of Defence Sen. Lieu. Gen Tran Don asked the Air Defence - AirForce to ensure progress and quality of the construction and devise measures toimplement tasks synchronously, firstly in unexploded ordnance disposal and landclearance.

Agencies under theMinistry of Defence are responsible for steering the Air Defence - Air Force inthe implementation of the project./.
