A seminar on construction technologies and industrial infrastructure for nuclear power stations took place in Hanoi on October 26, as part of the ongoing 5th International Exhibition on Nuclear Power.

Co-oganised by Vietnam’s Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety, at the Ministry of Science and Technology and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), t he seminar brought together policy makers, construction managers, scientists, and the heads of construction firms.

It aims to share the latest information on technologies used when building nuclear power stations and what needs to be developed in the country’s industrial infrastructure before it can begin to construct nuclear power stations.

Experts from the IAEA gave an overview on the construction technologies used to build the plants and underlined the crucial roles that domestic workers and industries play in this field in developing countries.

Specialists from several countries including Russia , France and Japan shared their experiences in this sector and discussed the capacity of a number of Vietnamese construction firms.

The participants at the seminar identified the construction fields that Vietnam should focus its investment on, to attract more major groups for the construction of the Ninh Thuan nuclear power station, the first of its kind in Vietnam.

The conference will help Vietnam make full use of its domestic industries when building the country’s first ever nuclear power station.

The 2000 MW Ninh Thuan 1 nuclear power project is underway with its Russian partner and the project on Ninh Thuan 2 is being carried out in cooperation with a Japanese company.-VNA
