Separate actions cannot solve the increasing impacts of climate change,thus Ho Chi Minh City is required to intensify its intersectoralcoordination and international cooperation in climate change resilienceand mitigation.
Domestic and foreign experts shared thisview at a workshop organised by the HCM City Climate Change SteeringBoard on December 18.
Ly Khanh Tam Thao, Deputy Chief of theDivision of General Planning Management under the municipal Departmentof Planning and Architecture, said the city has been researching theprobable impacts of climate change on the area and devising specialmeasures in urban planning.
However, the close collaborationamong relevant sides such as authorities, investors, consultancies andresidents is necessary to build viable strategies, he noted.
Since 2009, the city has issued and implemented action plans on climatechange resilience until 2015, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’sCommittee Nguyen Huu Tin said.
It has also joinedorganisations such as the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, fosteredits collaboration with the Dutch Government in water management andclimate change adaptation as well as Japan’s Osaka city in building alow carbon city, he added.
The workshop also heard theopinions of experts on waste treatment, energy, healthcare, transport,water sources and finance.-VNA
