Country’s disabled athletes, artists event begins

The 5th National Sports and Culture Competition for the Disabled opened in the central city of Da Nang on July 22 with over 800 disabled athletes and artists taking part.

Present at the opening ceremonywere senior officials from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism,Da Nang City and Yoon Seok Yong, President of the Republic of Korea’sParalympic Committee.

The four-day competition themed“Solidarity-Integration-Equality-Humanity” will help disabled Vietnameseathletes prepare for the 10 th Asian Para Games to be held inGuangzhou, China, in December 2010.

Over 720 disabled athleteswill compete in track and field events, swimming, table tennis,badminton, weightlifting, tennis and chess.

Also, as part of the competition, 113 singers and musicians will also stage their own contests./.
