As many as 50 cows have been donated to poor households in Lang Son province, as part of a programme to reduce poverty in the northern border areas.

Speaking at the granting ceremony on August 14, President Truong Tan Sang asserted that the Party and State has carried out effectively a number of poverty reduction programmes.

He hailed the initiative “Cows for the poor at border areas” for helping the target people improve their living standards.

Between June 2016 and October 2016, the programme plans to give 36,000 cows to poor households in 11 northern border provinces.

The programme is being carried out by the Border Guard High Command, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, the Central Committee of Vietnam Red Cross Society, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Viettel telecommunications group, the State Bank of Vietnam, and the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies.-VNA
