The Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) will respect King Norodom Sihamoni’s idea for the ultimate rights of the nation.

The announcement, made by the ruling party after the high-level meeting chaired by the King with the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) on September 14, further said the CPP parliamentarians will attend the first meeting of the fifth Parliament to be convened by the King, and continue to join the September 16 high-level meeting with the CNRP to settle post-election disputes.

It also called on the people across the nation to keep their stance and solidarity to maintain peace and social stability for the security and prosperity of the country.

On the contrary, the CNRP parliamentarians said that they, in their individual names, will not attend the first Parliament meeting and will send their letters to the King explaining their decisions.

Meanwhile, in the morning of September 15, about 30,000 CNRP supporters gathered at the Freedom Square in Phnom Penh to hold the second protest against the recent election’s results.

The opposition side has planned to organise protests from September 15-17, defying the earlier regulations by the Ministry of Home Affairs that allow the party to make it for just one day.

The situation has forced the Cambodian Ministry of Education to decide to postpone the graduation exam date for secondary school students to September 26-27 from September 16-17.-VNA
