A delegation from the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) led by Standing Deputy Head of the CPV Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Vuong Thua Phong attended the 19 th meeting of the Sao Paulo Forum in Brazil .

The meeting, which took place from July 31 to August 4, saw the participation of representatives of 91 leftwing parties and organisations from 42 countries.

This year’s forum focused on such important issues as regional and international situations, leftwing movements in Latin America, achievements and challenges of leftwing governments, and measures to speed up the process of regional connectivity in order to fight against the counter-attack strategy of imperialism.

Delegates at the forum also discussed other issues like sustainable development, food security, social welfare, democratisation of information, climate change, narcotics and migration.

The forum adopted some resolutions supporting the just struggle of people in Latin America and the world.

It also held a number of activities to honour the great contribution of late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to leftwing movements as well as the connectivity in Latin America and the Caribbean .

On the sidelines of the forum, the CPV delegation attended working sessions with the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB), the Workers’ Party of Brazil (PT), and other leftwing parties in the world.

At the meetings, leaders of the PCdoB and PT spoke highly of Vietnam’s renewal experience and expressed their willingness to further their friendship and cooperation with the CPV .

On this occasion, the CPV delegation signed a bilateral cooperation agreement for the 2013-2018 period with the PCdoB.

The 20 th meeting will be hosted by Bolivia’s Cochabamba city next year.-VNA
