A delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) attended the 21st Congress of the Progressive Party for the Working People (AKEL) of Cyprus , which was held in Nicosia from Nov. 25-28.

The CPV delegation, led by Deputy Head of the CPV Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Vuong Thua Phong, was among 67 delegations of communist, workers’ and leftist parties from 43 nations worldwide and international organisations.

The Vietnamese delegates handed over a message of greetings sent by the CPV Central Committee to the 21st Congress of AKEL.

Phong informed the participants about the CPV’s preparations for its 11th National Congress, scheduled to take place in early 2011.

The CPV delegation was received by the AKEL General Secretary, Andros Kyprianou, who expressed his belief that friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries’ parties and people would further develop in the future.

The Vietnamese officials paid a courtesy visit to Cypriot President Demitris Christofias, who is former AKEL General Secretary. They also made fact-finding trips to AKEL establishments and met with international delegations to the congress./.
