The emulation movement of “Good farmer in production and business” has been promoted among farmers in Tan Uyen district, the southern province of Binh Duong. Thanks to this movement, the life of farmers in the province has improved considerably, according to a local newspaper.

Ngo Phuong Thanh, Chairman of Tan Uyen district’s Farmers Association, was quoted by the Binh Duong online as saying that the district has so far had as many as 7,607 farming households with the title of “Good farmer in production and business” at all levels.

The association has also coordinated with the district’s Plant Protection Station, Agriculture
Extention Station, Veterinary Station and Mam Xanh fertiliser company to organise 258 training courses on animal husbandry and cultivation techniques for its members.

Thanks to their flexibility and creativeness plus efforts in sci-tech application, farmers have so far created many effective models, contributing to comprehensively promoting the local agricultural sector.

The district-based clubs on animal husbandry and farming have continued attracting a large crowd of members. The whole district is now home to 13 cooperative groups and collective economic models. Noticeably, there are two farms Phuong Uyen and Doan Minh Chien granted the VietGAP certificates.

Le Thi Chuyen, a winner of the title in Hoi Nghia commune, said that she previously failed to develop a model of growing spinach. After attending training courses on growing safe vegetables, she has changed to this model, helping her family secure a more stable life.

On average, she secures a monthly profit of 1 million VND (45 USD) from her safe vegetables cultivated on more than 3,000 sq.m.

Another title winner, Bui Van Minh in Uyen Hung township, said: “Currently, I harvest nearly 100kg of mushroom a day with the average price of around 20,000 VND/kg. My annual profit is between 200-300 million VND.”

According to Thanh, the model of growing grapefruit in association with banana is the province’s newest model with high economic efficiency. Many animal husbandry and crop cultivation models in the district have also brought about high economic efficiency, helping members of the district’s Farmers Association get out of poverty. This has contributed to the local socio-economic development.

Apart from improving the lives of their families, the district’s outstanding farmers have well realised their duties and responsibilities to the State and the community. They have always been in the vanguard of movements on rural traffic construction, social welfare and new rural construction.

Members of the district’s Farmers Association last year took park in upgrading and dredging canals with a total expense of more than 2.5 billion VND. They also helped one other in hunger eradication and poverty reduction. Especially, they contributed money and working days to upgrading and building houses for poor households.VNA
