Cuba, China strengthen bilateral cooperation

Cuban President Raul Castro affirmed his intention to strengthen bilateral cooperative ties with China on his reception of Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi on August 1.

Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro, who was present on the occasion also expressed his pleasure at the fine cooperative relations and traditional friendship between the two countries since the establishment of diplomatic ties in September, 1960.

Minister Yang Jiechi affirmed that over the past 50 years, with bilateral efforts, the two countries have reaped many encouraging achievements in various areas. He also declared that China would continue to support the fight to protect national sovereignty and oppose foreign interference in Cuba’s internal affairs.

During his visit, the Chinese Minister held talks with his counterpart Bruno Rodríguez and attended a ceremony to sign a bilateral economic cooperation agreement.

China is the second-largest trading partner of Cuba after Venezuela. The trade value between the two countries last year reached over 1.5 billion USD. At present, more than 2,000 Chinese students are studying in Cuba./.
